Information for drivers of mobility vehicles
According to the Department for Transport, there is no legal eyesight requirement to drive mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs, but users should be able to read a car’s registration number from a distance of 12.3 metres (40 feet).
However the guidance goes on to emphasize that if there is an accident and poor eyesight was part of the cause, the driver may have to pay compensation.
