This pair of folding pear shaped prince-nez was retrieved from a box of assorted 'bits and bobs' by a member of WSVAB.
The flexible bridge allows the lenses to be folded over each other and a small protrusion on the temporal rim holds them in place. On the other rim there is a little loop for a ribbon to be secured for looping the specs aroung the neck. Each rim has a small screw allowing the newly ground prescription lens to be inserted. The lenses are glass.
Many Prince-nez of a similiar design had pad arms extending from the rims ( see others here ), unusually this one had cork pads inserted in a groove which was decorated with bobbles.
